Individual Dance/Movement Therapy

A body-based, trauma-informed approach for people who feel stuck in their mind—or disconnected from themselves.

Individual therapy with me combines Dance/Movement Therapy (DMT), somatic tools, and talk therapy to support healing through both the mind and the body. You don’t need dance experience, and you will always have full autonomyin what we do and how we do it.

This is for you if you want to:

  • feel more grounded and emotionally regulated

  • strengthen boundaries and self-trust

  • reduce anxiety, overwhelm, and shutdown

  • process trauma safely and gently (at your pace)

  • reconnect to your body with more compassion

  • build coping skills that actually work in real life

What is Dance/Movement Therapy?

Dance/Movement Therapy is a psychotherapeutic approach that uses movement, body awareness, and the mind–body connection to support mental health. In sessions, movement can be as subtle as breath, posture shifts, stretching, gesture, grounding through the feet, or rhythmic tapping.

Important: You will never be forced to move.

No choreography. No performance. No pressure.

We follow what feels safe, doable, and supportive in your nervous system.

What individual sessions are like:

Each session is collaborative, client-led, and tailored to what you need that day.

A session may include:

  • check-in + intention setting

  • verbal processing and reflection

  • somatic tracking (“What do you notice in your body right now?”)

  • nervous system regulation skills (breath, orientation, rhythm, bilateral movement)

  • movement exploration that supports insight, release, or resourcing

  • integration: meaning-making + a take-home practice

You set the pace. I’ll guide you with warmth, structure, and trauma-informed care.

Who I work best with

Individual therapy may be a great fit if you:

  • feel anxious, overwhelmed, overthinking, or “always on”

  • feel numb, disconnected, depressed, or shut down

  • struggle with self-worth, inner criticism, or perfectionism

  • have trauma history (including complex trauma) and want a body-based approach

  • want support with life transitions, identity, relationships, and boundaries

  • want therapy that includes embodiment, not just talking

This may not be the right fit right now if…

I’m happy to help you find the right support if you need:

  • a higher level of care (frequent active safety risk, need for stabilization, detox, inpatient/residential)

  • a provider who accepts insurance directly (if I’m out-of-network/private pay only)

  • intensive case management or court-mandated documentation (depending on the situation)

If you’re unsure, book a consult and we’ll talk it through.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to dance?

No. Movement can be minimal and subtle. We work with what your body can do comfortably, including stillness.

I feel awkward in my body—will I be judged?

Never. Many people start therapy feeling disconnected or self-conscious. We normalize that and move gently.

What if I have an injury or limited mobility?

We adapt everything. DMT is for all bodies. Movement can be seated, small, or focused on breath/gesture.

Is this good for trauma?

Yes—DMT can be especially supportive for trauma work because it helps the nervous system build regulation and safety. We go at your pace.

How often should we meet?

Most people start weekly. Some shift to biweekly once skills and stability improve.

Do you take insurance?

I am a private pay only practice. I do offer sliding scale for people who need financial assistance.

What if I’m in crisis?

If you are in immediate danger or at risk of harm, call 988 (U.S.) or 911, or go to the nearest ER. Individual therapy is not a crisis service.

What is your cancellation policy?

Appointments reserved for you are a time set aside exclusively for your care. Please provide at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. Appointments canceled with less than 24 hours’ notice or missed appointments (no-shows) are charged the full session fee.

Late arrivals will still end at the scheduled time. I understand emergencies happen; one late-cancellation fee may be waived every 6 months at clinician discretion

Ready to begin?

If you’re looking for therapy that feels grounded, compassionate, and effective—and you want support that includes both your emotions and your body—I’d love to connect.
